When UFC welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre (18-2 MMA, 12-2 UFC) speaks, people listen.
The humble, well-spoken French-Canadian doesn't waste many words and doesn't often issue unwarranted superlatives.
And as St. Pierre continues preparations for his potentially epic showdown with No. 1 contender Thiago Alves (16-3 MMA, 9-2 UFC) at UFC 100 on July 11 in Las Vegas, the man who has already defeated B.J. Penn (twice), Matt Hughes (twice), Sean Sherk, Jon Fitch, Josh Koscheck, Matt Serra and others, is calling "Pitbull" the biggest challenge of his career.
"Well, I truly believe, first of all, that if you would put Thiago Alves and B.J. Penn in a fight, I would bet all my money on Thiago Alves, no doubt about it," St. Pierre said in a recent media call promoting the event. "This fight, for a lot of people, seems less dangerous for me because Thiago Alves is a gentleman, he's not somebody that needs to trash talk to promote himself.
"He's a very respectful guy. That's what makes him even more dangerous."
Alves has taken a completely different approach to his fight with St. Pierre than Penn did for a January contest with the welterweight champion. With a seven-fight win streak of his own – a streak that also includes several impressive names – Alves prefers to let his devastating strikes do the talking.
"Thiago's got devastating leg kicks, but that's not the only thing that he's got," St. Pierre said. "He's got great knees, a great left hook.
"I've been studying a lot of things that he does and I know he's going to be a better fighter than I saw in his previous fight because he's a young guy and he always comes back – he's always a better version of what he was the last time before."

GSP is at his all time best!!! Every time he steps in to the octagon he has looked more beefier and more skilled. Thiago alves thinks he has it set but GSP has way too much on him. Gsp is going to run alves out cuz alves is gonna be a dumbshit and go for a knockout! once alves is out of energy gsp is going for that superman punch and its all over SON!!!

I love how all of you think Alves is going to destroy GSP. Have you not seen what he has done in the past. GSP wins easily.

To be perfectly honest...I don't see GSP doing much in this fight. I see him probably catching Alves with a good straight or a hook and then I forsee him to get too excited and chase Alves toward the cage and Alves knocking him out.. Ya'll wait and see =) I would hate to tell you " I TOLD YOU SO "
...if what I just said actually happens, Im going to join the psychic hotline and I might piddle in my pants a little bit too. Haha im only hoping GSP gets knocked out because I'm a BJ Penn fan=) haha

Don't get me wrong here, Alves is 100% game opponent for GSP but I think that he's being hyped too much for this fight. Everyone says that this is the biggest test in GSP's career but I can't agree with that. I think his road back to regaining his title was. The loss to Sera may have been a fluke, but that showed GSP that he can't take title defenses lightly regardless of opponent. I see GSP taking Alves down at will, like he he can do to anyone in MMA. He will play it safe and keep it on the ground till he has tired Alves shoulders then finish him off in later rounds (like stated above). Alves does bring huge knockout power and solid muy tai to the table, but it isnt something that GSP hasnt had to deal with before. GSP in round 4.

Unlikely, now I don't want people to think i'm a GSP nuthugger, I'm actually Canadian so I'm allowed to be a fan without getting dumped on. But GSP is winning this fight, Alves can win but the only way I see it happening is by KO in the first two rounds. After that Georges GnP and cardio will be too much for Alves to handle. Alves will not win a ground fight, he will not win a decision and he can't sub George.
